Why is the new Green Lantern a white dude?

wait a minute!!! wasn't the green lantern black?? people were outraged when they talked about a possible black Spiderman, I want to see if those complaining about the change will complain now. Some say the original Green lantern was white but the one that the new generation came to know was black. so what's going on here?
