You're confusing Obama's personal popularity with approval of his policies. His personal popularity has to do with our American Idol mentality, which is what got him elected in the first place. His fans look on him as a rock star. His lower approval ratings concerning his actual performance are a result of some of the people actually paying attention to what he's doing in office. There's a big difference in the two.
