Need advice on creating a website...?

I'm an artist planning to show and sell my work online. I know absolutely nothing about creating my own website and don't really want to hire someone to do it for me. I really liked Vistaprint because you can use templates and edit your page easily yourself and they offer other items like postcards and business cards that match your site design, but I've been reading A LOT of terrible reviews about Vistaprint. Anyone have any suggestions for a similar site with a good reputation? Any other advice concerning any other options for starting my website also welcome. Or what are your experiences with Vistaprint?
