My old gas stove, c1900. The oven will not stay lit! Does it need the draw of a chimney, (not yet installed)?

I am hoping to determine if the chimney installation will help before going to the expense of doing it. It is a beautiful old stove! Any other helpful suggestions will be greatly appreciated! We really do not want to have a modern (ugly) stove. Thanks very much in advance! TR
